How To Avoid Relapse When The Struggle Is Real

This story is about who have struggled with addiction and how difficult it can be to stay sober and avoid relapse. It takes hard work, dedication, and a support system to maintain long-term recovery. Recently, before taping an episode BUILD Podcast I had a conversation with Marlisa B. Nixon, who celebrated her ninth year of long-term recovery and sobriety, and she shared some powerful insights on how to avoid relapse and live a life of recovery.

For Marlisa, her mission started when she founded her makeup business, FANCIFACE by Marlisa, in 2016. She never imagined that her makeup artistry business would turn into a ministry to help others with their journey of self-esteem, life of recovery, sobriety and more Marlisa said, “It’s a blessing for women of all walks of life to open up about their challenges while I’m applying makeup. It gives them the chance to remove the mask and breathe, how ironic is that?” Her own past trials and talents have now become a tool to help others during their recovery.

Another advocate for maintaining sobriety is Linda Hall-Rapley, a friend of Marlisa’s who has also been living a life of recovery for 16 years. She bravely shared her struggles with addiction and the fear of relapse. Linda said, “I can’t go back to where I was, it frightens me to even think about returning to a life of addiction. I lost my kids for a period of time, and I don’t wish that on my worst enemy.” Linda attributes her success in staying sober to the support and accountability she receives from her fellow brothers and sisters in recovery.

Having a support system and being held accountable by people who understand the journey of addiction is crucial in preventing relapse. This is where organizations like Serenity Farm in Americus, GA, can be of great help. Rehab facilities like Serenity Farm offer a safe and supportive environment for those struggling with addiction. With the help of people who have gone through similar struggles, individuals can find hope and the strength to stay sober.

Marlisa and Linda’s stories are a testament to the fact that recovery is possible and that with the right support and determination, anyone can overcome addiction. It’s important to remember that relapse is part of the journey, and it’s essential to not feel ashamed or give up if it happens. Instead, accept it, and use it as a learning experience to come back stronger and continue the journey towards sobriety.

Let’s continue to support and uplift those in a journey towards a healthier and happier life.
